New Course Offering for GHS Gifted & Talented Students

As educators committed to nurturing the unique talents and abilities of our students, we are excited to introduce a new course designed specifically for our gifted and talented high school students: the Gifted and Talented Interdisciplinary Studies Seminar.

We understand that gifted students are eager to learn and often find that traditional academic programs do not meet their needs. Our interdisciplinary seminar is designed to provide a stimulating and challenging educational experience that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration across a variety of disciplines.

The Gifted and Talented Interdisciplinary Studies Seminar is an Honor-level course that will explore a wide range of topics, drawing from fields such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, and the arts. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, projects, and hands-on activities, students will have the opportunity to delve deeply into subjects of interest, make connections between different areas of study, and develop their intellectual curiosity.

Click this link and complete the Google Form for more information.  The student must have been tested and determined to be GT to be eligible for the class.

Some of the key features of the course include:

1. **Customized Learning:** Students will be able to choose the topics they study, which will allow them to learn about things they are interested in and passionate about. This will create a more personalized learning experience that meets their individual needs.

2. **Interdisciplinary Approach:** By bringing together ideas and methods from different fields of study, students will gain a deeper understanding of complex problems and develop the ability to think across disciplines.

3. **Real-World Application:** Through project-based learning and experiential activities, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems, fostering creativity, innovation, and problem-solving abilities.

4. **Collaborative Environment:** The seminar will provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment where students can engage with peers and mentors who share their intellectual curiosity and passion for learning.

We believe that the Gifted and Talented Interdisciplinary Studies Seminar will not only challenge and inspire your child academically but also cultivate essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration that are crucial for success in college and beyond.

This year, we successfully piloted a G/T Advisory class with a small group of volunteer students with the intention of expanding it each year. However, with the return of the eight-period day next year, Advisory is slated to be discontinued. As a result, students will be required to select an additional elective, creating a prime opportunity for the establishment of this Honor-level class.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the course, please do not hesitate to contact me or join me at a parent meeting on Thursday, May 16th @ 5:30 pm in Room A105 at the high school.
