This first year has proven successful for the GHS Fishing team. The team has competed in 4 out of 5 tournaments for the year, with the 4th tournament hosted locally at Lake Texoma on February 11th. Going into the Texoma Tournament, the team was ranked 8th out of 50 teams. At Texoma, the GHS team finished FIRST place and have qualified for the Regional tournament. Four out of the eight two-person teams finished in the top 15 out of over 250 teams.
GHS has 8 teams, which consist of two students and one community volunteer captain. As of now, the team has a good chance to compete at the State Championship in May, with a chance to win $40,000 in scholarships.
The tournaments draw 271 teams from 50 schools in the West division alone. There are 896 teams and 130 schools currently in the Texas High School Bass Fishing Association, and growing rapidly every year. Special thanks goes out to the captains and sponsors, because none of this would be possible without their commitment.
