Gainesville is a city in and the county seat of Cooke County, Texas in the Texoma region. Gainesville ISD is a 4A public school serving approximately 3,050 students at five campuses and Head Start. In 2016-2017, all GISD campuses achieved Met Standard, the highest rating schools can earn on the state’s accountability system, and in addition, the district as a whole exceeded target in all four indexes. In addition, the district received 6 individual campus distinctions. Gainesville Independent School District will continue to strive for student excellence to consistently increase index scores at every campus.
The 2017-18 GISD district calendar reflected a bad weather day on Friday, May 18. Since GISD did not cancel any school days due to inclement weather, all campuses would have been closed on May 18. Due to changes in the TEA assessment calendar, May 18th is also the scheduled make-up day for all STAAR assessments administered from May 14th -May 17th. Due to the conflict, the following adjustments have made to the 2017-18 school calendar: 1. Friday, May 18th, will be regular instructional day. 2. Monday, May 21st, will be a bad weather day and all campuses will be closed.
GISD received a rating of “A” (Superior) on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) on the 2016-17 ratings based on school year 2015-16 data. Superior Achievement is the state’s highest rating, and within that scale GISD received a perfect score of 100, demonstrating the quality of GISD’s financial management and reporting system.
Gainesville ISD earned six individual campus academic distinctions in the 2017 Accountability ratings. School districts and their campuses are evaluated on four criteria: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary reading level.
