Dr. Jeffrey L. Brasher began as the superintendent of Gainesville Independent School District on June 6, 2011. Before becoming superintendent of Gainesville ISD, Dr. Brasher brought 12 years of administrative experience and a vision of working with the educational community of Gainesville. Dr. Brasher is committed to working diligently with the board and community of Gainesville to promote Leopard Pride as well as create academic and extracurricular success for all students.
Dr. Brasher grew up in a small north Texas community, graduating from Seymour High School in 1987. Early in college Dr. Brasher realized he had a strong desire to coach and assist in the academic and athletic success of all students and entered into the educational field in 1992. With twenty-one years of educational experience the Brashers moved into the community of Gainesville with the opportunistic view of helping influence the quality of education received by the children of the community. Dr. Brasher and wife Kim have four children, Gabriella (17) and Logan (15), Colby (13) and the newest addition Knoxx (1). The Brashers live in the community of Gainesville for many reasons. First, due to the excellent educational system offered at Gainesville ISD. Second, the community of Gainesville is friendly, student orientated and eager to create an even better place to live for their residents. Finally, the community of Gainesville shares many of the same small town values as Dr. Brasher’s home in Seymour, Texas.
Dr. Brasher began his career as a professional educator after graduating from Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1992. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with a minor in Biology, he returned back to school and completed a Master of Education and Doctorate Program in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University in 1999 and 2007 respectively. Dr. Brasher is a certified Biology and Physical Education teacher and has also attained certification in mid-management and as a superintendent.
Soon after graduating from MSU, Dr. Brasher became the Chillicothe High School science teacher and was fortunate to be the assistant coach for both the boys and girls high school athletic programs. After two years Dr. Brasher then took a teaching and coaching position with Shallowater Independent School District. While teaching and coaching in Shallowater Dr. Brasher attended Texas Tech University and pursued a Masters in Educational Leadership. While serving Shallowater ISD for four years Dr. Brasher completed his Master’s Degree in 1999. After graduation Dr. Brasher accepted the position as High School Principal with the Anton Independent School District. After several years with AISD, Dr. Brasher was given the opportunity to become the middle school principal in the 4A district of Levelland. While Dr. Brasher served as Middle School Principal in Levelland he attended Texas Tech University and completed their superintendent program in the fall of 2004. After receiving superintendent certification Dr. Brasher and his family moved to San Angelo in order to serve as superintendent of the Veribest Independent School District. Dr. Brasher then moved to the 2A District of Brady ISD and served as their superintendent for three years. Having the opportunity to move closer to home Dr. Brasher accepted the position as superintendent of Gainesville ISD in 2011.
During Dr. Brasher’s tenure as a principal and superintendent, he has been characterized for his pursuit of exemplary standards in academics, as well as his focus on creating and maintaining first rate facilities and extracurricular programs. Dr. Brasher continues to work with the community and district of Gainesville in order to create the best educational opportunities for all students.
